Currency & Money in Bangkok

Updated August 2026 · Totally Bangkok

The Thai Baht (THB) is the only currency accepted almost everywhere — here's how to manage it.

Current exchange rate

As of this update, 1 USD is worth roughly 33–34 THB, though rates move daily. Check a live converter before a big exchange or transfer rather than relying on a fixed number.

Cash vs card

Street food, markets and taxis are largely cash-only, while malls, hotels and most restaurants accept cards. Carrying some small notes at all times avoids awkward moments.

Exchanging money

Licensed exchange counters — SuperRich and similar chains are well known in Bangkok — generally offer better rates than banks or airport counters. It's worth comparing a couple of rates before committing to one spot.

ATMs

ATMs are everywhere and accept foreign cards, though most charge a flat withdrawal fee on top of whatever your home bank charges. Withdrawing larger amounts less often reduces the total fees you pay.

This page will get a live exchange-rate widget in a future update — for now, treat the number above as a same-week approximation, not a locked-in rate.
